Well known for its friendliness, the Wauconda Area Library serves a fast-growing district of 27,000 residents with a staff of 53 employees, an award-winning building, and state-of-the-art automation and computer services. The Wauconda Area Library, North Suburban Library System's 2005 "Library of the Year," is located in the fast-growing northwest suburbs of Chicago, in western Lake County, just north of Barrington and Lake Zurich. The library district encompasses all or portions of Island Lake, Lakemoor, Lake Barrington, Port Barrington, Volo, Wauconda, and unincorporated Lake County.

Overview

Under the supervision of the Page Plus Supervisor, this employee understands and follows the mission and values of the Wauconda Area Library.  They are responsible for accurately shelving materials and supporting the whole library concept with exceptional customer service.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with the Page Plus Supervisor and Page Plus team to shelve materials with the highest quality and maintain the highest quality order within the library's collections.

  • Provide friendly and responsive customer service.

  • Support the Call Center and "within the hour" concept utilizing a headset and mobile device.

  • Ability to accurately file alphabetically and numerically.

  • Regularly inspects end panels on ranges for accuracy.

  • Continuously maintain the orderliness of cleanliness of all public areas.

  • Demonstrate exceptional problem solving skills, flexibility, and sound judgment.

  • Ensure all policies of the Wauconda Area Library are followed.

  • Ability to work productively in a team environment with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to productively communicate with all levels of library staff and management.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage a high level of detail.

  • Serve on committees as needed and attend library meetings as directed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required

  • High school graduate or high school senior with at least one year working experience in a public library position.

  • Ability to communicate clearly in both written and oral form.

  • Knowledge of and ability to use a variety of computer programs.

  • Ability to read 8 point font.

  • Good typing skills.

  • Willingness to commit to scheduled and flexible work shifts.

  • Ability to work productively with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to learn new technologies.

Physical/Other Requirements

  • Must be fully mobile.

  • Must possess manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination when moving library materials or operating automated equipment at the library.

  • Ability to push 50 pounds.

  • Ability to stoop and reach.

  • Ability to work on your feet and stand for extended periods.

Hours include evenings and weekends.

Starting pay $9.50 per hour.
