Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of National Library Week
April 13 - 19

This year marks the 50th anniversary of National Library Week, a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries, librarians and library workers in schools, campuses and communities nationwide -- and the perfect time to discover how much the Wauconda Area Library has to offer!

This year Julie Andrews is the honorary Chair of National Library Week.  Click on the video link below to see her talk about the importance and value of libraries.

Please join us during this week for many special programs, activities and prizes for people of all ages.

Meet Chicago Mystery Authors from The Outfit

Sunday, April 13 at 2 p.m.

Crime writers, Libby Fischer Hellmann, Barbara D'Amato, Kevin Guilfoile, Michael Allen Dymmoch and Marcus Sakey, will join us to talk about mystery, intrigue, red herrings, the nature of evil and writing in Chicago.  Don't miss this unique opportunity to see your favorite Chicago crime writers in-person for a lively and engaging discussion!  Books will be available for sale and signing following the program.

Festivities for Children
"Join the Circle of Knowledge @ Your Library!"

Renowned storyteller Jim May will share is entertaining stories on Saturday, April 19 at 2 p.m.  This program will delight children of all ages and is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Calling all baking booklovers for our Booklicious event!  Here's your chance to decorate a sheet cake as your favorite book and have it publicly displayed in the Lincoln Room on Sunday, April 20 from 12:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.  Pre-register at the Children's or Adult Services Reference Desk before April 18th.  Cakes can be dropped off and arranged on Saturday, April 19 between 1:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.  Prizes awarded!

Help create a Readers' Chain by checking out books during National Library Week.  For every book, you will receive a paper strip to deposit in a ballot box at the Circulation Desk.  Staff will collect the strips each day and create a paper chain to hang in the Children's department.  Let's see how long we can make it!

A rainbow assortment of book shapes will adorn the windows and walls of the Children's department.  Pick up a tally sheet at the Children's Reference Desk and start counting!  Fun prizes for those who find them all.
