Join the Fun and Run for the Library!
Saturday, April 7

The Friends of the Wauconda Area Library, in partnership with StarRunners, will sponsor a 4-mile run, and everyone is invited to be a part of the festivities! There will also be a 2-mile fun run/walk for those who want to participate but do not want to run four miles. All proceeds of this family-friendly event will benefit the Friends of the Library.

Click here to register online for the Wauconda Bunny Hop.

The Bunny Hop will mark the beginning of a special campaign to help fund some much needed new library services, including a new delivery van, new drive-by book returns at the Island Lake and Volo village halls, and a new self-checkout station in the Children's Services Department. The delivery van will greatly improve access to materials for many patrons throughout the district, including senior centers and homebound residents.

runnersAbout the Run/Walk

Both the 4-mile and 2-mile courses will start from and end at the library. The 4-mile run begins at 9 a.m. and is a hilly, challenging run around scenic Bangs Lake. The 2-mile fun run/walk around Cook Park and down Main Street begins at 9:10 a.m. The Easter Bunny will be visiting in order to cheer on our runners/walkers and pose for pictures.

The awards ceremony starts at 10:15 a.m. Bunny-shaped trophies will be awarded to the first place overall male and female contestants, as well as the first and second place winners in various age categories. To maintain a fun and creative atmosphere, winners for Best Costume and Best Spectator Sign will also be chosen.

The entry fee for the 4-mile run is $25 and the 2-miles fun run/walk entry fee is $15. Children under 5 can walk for free (unless they want a t-shirt). All paid participants will receive a goody bag containing a list of sponsors and a variety of health-related items. Sign up early, as the first 200 entrants will receive a Bunny Hop t-shirt.

We need sponsors - click here for details!

Friends MeetingIt's great to have Friends!

The Friends of the Library enriches the community by raising funds to support library services. The Friends group also acts as library advocates and works to help ensure that the library plays an important role in the community.

In the past years, the Friends group has provided funding for the library's surround-sound theater system, a 300-gallon aquarium, a fireplace, a 42-inch HDTV for promoting library services and events, the "Cafe Art" photographic series displayed in the Cozy Corner Cafe, and the Children's storytime chair. They have also funded several technology-based services, like the purchase of an Early Literacy Station, Nooks, Kindles and iPads. The Friends also help support the summer concert series, reading club programs, literary and cultural events.

FriendsThis is made possible by the continuous effort of our dedicated volunteers who give their time to sort through donations and organize materials for the book sales, to assist with library events like handing out ice cream treats at the summer concert series and promoting the library at the Wauconda Chamber of Commerce Business Expo, and to fundraise throughout the year for special library projects..

We need you!

If you would like to volunteer or would like more information about the Friends of the Library, email the Friends at or come to one of the monthly meetings. The Friends meet on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m.
