Overview:
Responsible for driving the library van, general building and grounds maintenance, custodial/housekeeping duties and library program setups.
Essential Job Duties:
- Drive library vehicle to multiple locations to retrieve and/or drop off library materials to locations within the district.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and attractive physical space for patrons and a safe working environment for staff, including the safe storage and proper care of maintenance and janitorial equipment.
- Clean the building on a regular schedule as assigned by the Building & Grounds Supervisor. This may include cleaning floors, surfaces, restrooms, emptying trash and recycling cans.
- Replace light bulbs, paper goods, and other items as needed.
- Perform various maintenance tasks including painting, hanging pictures, and minor repairs to library equipment, furniture or facilities.
- Keep parking lot, lawn, and sidewalks free from debris.
- Shovel and/or salt walkways and parking lots outside the building whenever necessary.
- Report any maintenance issues or needed repairs to the Building & Grounds Supervisor.
- Set up for library programs, including audiovisual equipment and technology.
- Provide friendly, courteous, and accurate service to all library users.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Required:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- A minimum of 1 year of janitorial or maintenance experience preferred.
- Valid and current driver’s license. Clean driving record.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions.
- Knowledge of safe working practices.
- Frequently operate equipment such as, but not limited to, hand tools, power tools, blowers, snow and ice
removal equipment, ladders and safety equipment. - Safely work with chemicals, paint and general cleaning supplies.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others, orally and in writing, including through email.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, patrons, groups, community organizations, volunteer groups and to serve the public courteously.
Hours:
Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays – 4:30 p.m. – 9 p.m., Saturdays 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Rate:
$17.50/hour, DOQ. Benefits include pro-rated vacation time and paid holidays.
